QNAP Launches GM-1000 QuTS hero NAS: Intel Xeon E Dual NAS with Doubled Performance for Backup and Cloud Storage Gateway

Taipei, Taiwan, August 31, 2020 – QNAP Systems Inc. today announced the new GM-1000 series NAS – a highly-flexible enclosure-based system with two replaceable NAS nodes powered by Intel® Xeon® E processors. Running the ZFS-based QuTS hero operating system, the GM-1000 focuses on data integrity and features powerful block-level inline data deduplication and compression. Near-limitless snapshots, real-time SnapSync, and many more business-oriented features are also included to achieve reliable service-level agreement performance and Big Data storage.

“The GM-1000 features a unique dual-NAS architecture that delivers cost-efficient and space-saving advantages, ideal for offloading services between the two NAS nodes or running cross backup,” said David Tsao, Product Manager of QNAP, adding “Its ZFS storage and performance makes it perfect for massive file storage, virtualization, and post-production with outstanding reliability and cost-effectiveness.”

The GM-1000 consists of two independent TNS-h1083X NAS nodes that use Intel® Xeon® E multi-core processors with up to 128 GB server-grade DDR4 ECC memory. Each NAS node provides abundant 10GbE/2.5GbE ports and built-in M.2 and U.2 SSD slots for cache acceleration, effectively tackling performance bottlenecks of applications that require high-bandwidth and low-latency (such as business intensive backup and virtualization). Two PCIe slots are included for extending core NAS functionality, for example, adding 10GbE/25GbE/40GbE network cardsQM2 cards to add M.2 SSDs, and QXP or SAS expansion cards for connecting QNAP expansion enclosures. By installing QNAP Fibre Channel (FC) cards, the GM-1000 can be added to existing FC SAN environments to make a budget-friendly storage or backup solution.

Powered by the ZFS-based QuTS hero, the GM-1000 supports data integrity and self-healing, and provides multiple RAID configurations with Triple Parity and Triple Mirror to enhance data protection. Up to 1 PB capacity for individual shared folders is supported, enabling enterprises to tackle storage-demanding applications including Big Data analysis, edge computing, and AI. For data reduction, powerful inline data deduplication, compression, and compaction significantly reduces the overall storage footprint – especially helpful for increasing SSD storage efficiency when highly-repetitive data or massive small files are generated, while improving both random write performance and SSD lifespan. QuTS hero supports near-unlimited snapshots and versioning for enhanced data protection. The advanced block-based real-time SnapSync ensures that the primary NAS and the secondary NAS always keep the same data, providing the strongest support for nonstop business operations.

The inclusive App Center provides multiple install-on-demand apps to further expand the application potential of the GM-1000, such as hosting virtual machines and containers, simplifying local/remote/cloud backups, setting up a cloud storage gateway to deploy hybrid cloud applications, cross-device and cross-team file synchronization, and much more.

By adopting QNAP’s license-free Hyper Data Protector VM backup solution, users only need one QNAP NAS to securely backup their VM environments. Coupled with snapshots and other protective features of QNAP NAS, users can build a high-performance VM backup and recovery plan within a maintainable budget,” said Wayne Hsiao, Product Manager of QNAP.

With Hyper Data Protector users can choose to back up all the VMs on a Hypervisor or backup individual VMs. Hyper Data Protector features incremental backup, global deduplication, backup scheduling and recovery compression to greatly optimize backup/recovery times and storage requirements. For businesses with significant virtualized infrastructure, QNAP’s high-speed 10GbE, 5GbE and 2.5GbE NAS provide the ideal environment for running Hyper Data Protector.

Hyper Data Protector supports multiple version retention for up to 1024 versions. If a VM on the production site goes down, users can quickly recover a point-of-time backed-up VM from the backup server to the production site (or to another operating host server) to minimize RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and service downtime. Additionally, Hyper Data Protector supports VMware® vMotion that features Live Migration to ensure VM backup tasks keep running.

Supported Source Platforms:

  • VMware vSphere: 6.0, 6.5, 6.7
  • Microsoft Hyper-V: Windows Server Hyper-V 2016, Windows Server Hyper-V 2019

QNAP’s QuTScloud Cloud NAS Solution Now Available in AWS Marketplace

Taipei, Taiwan, August 17, 2020 – QNAP Systems, Inc. (QNAP), a leading computing, networking, and storage solution innovator, today announced that the QuTScloud – a cloud Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution that enables deploying QTS (the QNAP NAS operating system) on cloud platforms – is available in AWS Marketplace.

Organizations that have stored most of their data on the cloud but lack a management system to capitalize on their digital assets can create a virtual QTS instance on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) for implementing QuTScloud on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This cloud-based NAS solution not only provides a great solution to optimize cloud-based data usage, but also allows users to benefit from the services and functions of a QNAP NAS.

“QuTScloud is a virtual appliance that leverages AWS infrastructure to empower users with the functionality of an on-premises QNAP NAS,” said Aseem Manmualiya, Product Manager of QNAP, adding “it provides an exceptional option for businesses and organizations who want to centrally manage multi-cloud data, along with the additional benefits of greater price-performance flexibility.”

QuTScloud can be easily setup and started in three simple steps:

  1. Launch QuTScloud as an Amazon EC2 instance from the AWS MarketplaceWatch tutorial
  2. Purchase a license from the QNAP Software StoreWatch tutorial
  3. Generate a QuTScloud license key using the QNAP License Manager and initialize QuTScloud. Watch tutorial

QNAP also offers an array of utilities to help users take full advantage of cloud storage services – including Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon S3 Glacier. QNAP Hybrid Backup Sync (HBS) facilitates easy backup and file sync to cloud storage, while HybridMount & VJBOD Cloud act as file-based and block-based cloud gateways to seamlessly bridge physical/cloud QNAP NAS and cloud storage for enhanced data value and increased management efficiency.
