QNAP Launches the QuCPE Series, Supporting Network Function Virtualization, SD-WAN and AMIZ Cloud to Enable a Software-defined Service Ecosystem

Taipei, Taiwan, November 6, 2020 – QNAP Systems, Inc. (QNAP), a leading computing, networking, and storage solution innovator, today released the QuCPE series Network Virtualization Premise Equipment that supports Network Function Virtualization (NFV), QuWAN SD-WAN and the AMIZ Cloud VM Orchestrator platform to offer efficient deployment and management for agile multi-site IT network infrastructure. The solution achieves Zero Touch Provisioning to greatly simplify large-scale network deployment and reduce IT maintenance requirements. The QuCPE series also provides an open platform for developers to submit their own VNF and applications, enabling a Software-defined Service Ecosystem.

The QuCPE series features Intel® Xeon®, Intel® Core™ and Intel® Pentium® processors and supports hardware network acceleration technologies such as Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT) to provide high-performance network services. With Intel® QAT, the QuCPE series is able to increase the overall performance by 30%, while enhancing data protection capabilities. By installing an SR-IOV compatible PCIe NIC card, the bandwidth resources from a physical network card can be allocated directly to VMs, ensuring reliable VM network efficiency. The QuCPE solution leverages the Converged Edge Reference Architecture (CERA) from Intel® for an optimized service infrastructure that supports vision and inference workloads with OpenVINO as well as 5G and MEC capabilities at the edge with Open Network Edge Services Software (OpenNESS). The easy-to-use interface facilitates large-scale network management and enables fast boot-up to increase service uptime. By supporting Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) optimized for multicore Intel® CPUs, the QuCPE series also boosts packet processing, performance, flexibility and throughput.

“We are delighted to work closely with Intel as we introduce the QuCPE Network Virtualization Premise Equipment series based on Intel technologies to assist enterprises and ISP industries in deploying the modern agile IT infrastructure,” said Teddy Kuo, Chairman of QNAP, continuing “With its Zero Touch Provisioning and software-defined service ecosystem platform, the QuCPE series achieves highly-efficient and secure network virtualization deployment, thus offering a game-changing solution in the new networking era.”

“Deploying a software-defined, agile and scalable infrastructure will allow enterprises to more efficiently consume the rich base of applications and services hosted in the cloud. By using Intel’s edge technology solutions spanning silicon, software, toolkits and reference designs, our partners like QNAP can accelerate development of infrastructure solutions that provide a strong foundation for innovative edge services to drive service innovations across different vertical enterprises.” said Bob Ghaffari, general manager of Intel’s Enterprise Cloud and Networking Division.

Catering to businesses expanding into remote working and multi-site operations, the QuCPE series has assisted in deploying large-scale highly resilient distributed workforce networks. A major US call center operator leveraged QuCPE to successfully enable network services for 9,000 remote operators based all over the world. AMIZ Cloud enables not only the call center systems to be flexibly deployed as virtual machines and accessed from multiple remote locations, but the headquarter-based IT staff can centrally manage all networking devices and remotely troubleshoot issues. The QuCPE series provides reliable service uptime to boost multi-site IT deployment and management efficiency.

Another case demonstrates how virtual network functions (VNF) services can significantly simplify equipment maintenance processes to meet growing business needs. A Hong Kong ISP adopted QuCPE to sell on-demand VNF services to their enterprise clients. By replacing client-based physical network equipment with QuCPEs in their IT rooms, they can connect to core networks to offer VNF services via AMIZ Cloud. With AMIZ Cloud, QuCPE achieves Zero Touch Provisioning to reduce expensive on-site maintenance requirements and enables more IT resource efficiency.

The QuCPE series provides an AMIZ Marketplace, allowing managed service providers, independent software vendors, and business organizations to easily install and update the VNF and apps in the QuCPE series from the cloud. The AMIZ Marketplace features well-rounded licensing and payment services to provide software developers a user-friendly and collaborative ecosystem to foster greater business innovation with QNAP.

Fight Against AgeLocker With QNAP: Install Software Updates and Follow Best Practices

Taipei, Taiwan, September 26, 2020 – QNAP Systems, Inc. (QNAP), a leading computing, networking and storage solution innovator, today issued a statement in response to recent reports and media coverage indicating that the AgeLocker malware is encrypting user data and demanding a ransom. Current intelligence pointed out that AgeLocker-affected systems are mostly macOS and Linux devices, and QNAP’s initial investigation showed that no unpatched vulnerabilities are found in QTS. All known affected NAS are running older, unpatched QTS versions. QNAP is carrying out a thorough investigation by working with other information security entities to ensure the security of all QNAP products.

QNAP have an uncompromising commitment to information security. Since unpatched devices are prone to information security threats, QNAP urges all users to update their device OS and apps to the latest version available. Users should also follow good information security practices such as using strong passwords and installing the Malware Remover app on their NAS. These will make the device harder to be breached, thus enhancing data security. QNAP has also released a security advisory for AgeLocker, detailing technical details and steps to mitigate threats. The advisory will be updated when necessary as the incident evolves.

QNAP Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) constantly monitors the latest intelligence to deliver up-to-date information and software updates, ensuring data security for users. Once again, QNAP urges users to periodically check and install product software updates to keep their devices away from malicious influences. QNAP also provides the best practice for improving personal and organizational information security. By working together to fight against cybersecurity threats, we make the Internet a safer place for everyone.
