QNAP Unveils 12-bay and 16-bay TL SAS 12Gb/s JBOD Series, Delivering up to 96Gbps and 4.6PB Raw Capacity

Taipei, Taiwan, December 3, 2020 – QNAP Systems, Inc. , a leading computing, networking and storage solution innovator today launched new TL SAS storage enclosures, including the 12-bay TL-R1220Sep-RP and 16-bay TL-R1620Sep-RP models, both providing flexible storage expansions for QTS/ QuTS hero NAS. The TL SAS JBOD supports SAS 12Gbps transmission, delivering up to 96Gbps transfer speed and supporting Broadcom® SAS DataBolt bandwidth optimization and multipath routing. Up to 16 JBODs can also be daisy-chained to reach 4.6PB raw capacity, providing high-performance and high-capacity storage expansion solutions for corporations looking for massive storage.

The TL SAS JBOD is powered by a SAS35x28R / SAS35x36R SAS Expander with four SAS wide ports each combining four 12Gbps SAS lanes. By configuring two wide ports with link aggregation, transfer speeds can reach 96Gb/s. Featuring Broadcom® SAS DataBolt™ bandwidth optimization technology, the TL SAS JBOD features an intelligent data buffer for transferring data to drives at speeds that match the performance of the host NAS, allowing user to benefit from high-speed 12Gb/s SAS transmission with existing 6Gb/s infrastructure. With the host NAS supports multipath routing, high availability can be achieved. If one route fails, another transmission route can be used to access the data and ensure continuous system operations.

“Compared with our existing REXP expansion enclosures. the TL SAS JBOD provides higher performance and double the data transmission speeds. It can also daisy-chain up to sixteen JBODs to reach 4.6PB raw capacity. By using the Storage & Snapshot Manager app on the host NAS, users can easily configure and manage the settings of the TL SAS JBOD, including RAID groups and snapshots, to ensure the full consolidation and integrity of data,” said David Tsao, Product Manager of QNAP.

Featuring a short-depth design, the TL SAS JBOD is suitable for universal deployment. Up to sixteen expansion enclosures can be daisy-chained via high-speed mini SAS HD cables to support massive storage capacity applications (including virtualization, surveillance, Big Data, and 4K/8K multimedia). The TL SAS JBOD also provides the ability to accelerate transferring huge files: After moving files to the TL SAS JBOD, it can be removed from the host NAS and attached to another NAS to facilitate data transfer without impacting network performance.
